Progressive Era & Imperialism
As the United States became increasingly industrialized in the 20th century, more government regulation was necessary to combat the ills in the political, social, economic realms. Individuals like Teddy Roosevelt and William H. Taft were remarkable "trustbusters" of big business. However, other individuals such as muckrakers utilized the spirit of reform and used journalism to champion the hopes of change in many industries and social problems in the U.S. Imperialism progressed during the same era with the United States becoming more involved in foreign affairs including the Spanish-American War. The United States returned to a policy of isolationism after the war, until WWI broke out in 1914, and the U.S officially entered in 1917. |
